Infineon Round 2

The team arrived Wednesday to Sunny Northern CA and prepared the Bikes for the second round of racing in the AMA Pro superbike championship. The weather was cool and the potential for rain made it a challenging weekend for all. Infineon raceway has always proved to be a very difficult track for all competitors and is definitely the most technical that we will visit all season. David Anthony, Jordan Burgess and Johnny Rock page are representing Team ADR Fly racing at this round and all are ready and pumped for on track activities!

The first practice saw times consistently dropping and the field pushing for that best lap before it all counts in the next session. The track time allowed the boys to dial in the bikes, figure out the best lines and make the adjustments that will propel them around for their fastest laps. Qualifying saw Dave in 9th, Jordan in 17th and so far Johnny did not make the cut.

With the information from the bikes and the feedback from the riders, our mechanics were able to make changes that dropped the times in the next practice which was also the final qualifying session. The track was green as it had rained that morning but as the temperatures rose, the times on the track dropped! Dave was 6th fastest in the session which placed him in 7th on the second row of the superbike grid. Jordan went faster and found himself 16th on the grid and Johnny could not find a setup for the bike in time and unfortunately did not qualify for the weekend.

Race 1 got off to a good start for Dave as he went in to the second corner in 6th place. Not so good for Jordan however as his bike broke a chain and cracked a hole in the block, retiring him for the race. A few turns in a rider ran wide and pushed Dave out of the line allowing 3 other riders to go underneath them. Lap after lap he was gaining back precious time on the track and moved in to 8th position racing with the pack for 5th. The next rider back was almost 12 seconds behind Dave as he was on the move. His lap times were consistently 1 second faster than Pegram in fifth, Roger Hayden in 6th and Steve Rapp in 7th. When he moved around Rapp, he noticed the rider look down like something was wrong and this positioned him off the line resulting in a crash between him and Hayden ending his charge to 5th place. Even though his spirits were crushed, Dave learned valuable information and proved that he can run upfront. Final finishes were 17th position for Dave and 20th position for Jordan.

Race 2 was red flagged on the first lap because of a crash in the front of the pack and after a restart, the boys were off. Concerned about his clutch, Dave’s start was not as good and he dropped in line in the 10 position by the time they came back around. Jordan was involved in a first lap crash that saw the Factory Kawasaki bike hit the front of another rider and collected Jordy and two other bikes in the aftermath. One rider was trapped under his bike and Jordy ran over, after just Sliding himself, and helped the guy lift the bike off his leg. Jordy’s bike was to damaged and he could not return to the race finishing in 18th position. Dave was on the move again chasing the second pack and lap after lap, gained one second or more on the group. He passed Chris Peris on the BMW, Geoff May on the Buell, and then 8th place Chris Clark and was still gaining on Rapp and Roger Hayden. After securing 7th palce and Checking out, his Bike suffered a mechanical fault and would not run properly, ending his day in 16th place.

The weekend saw many success’s and a lot of bad luck but it only strengthens our determination to move on to the next round at Miller Motorsports park and etch our positions in the superbike Class chasing that championship Gold for the season! Thank you from our entire Team for all of your support and we look forward to seeing you all at the track!
